Traffic stop for speeding leads to various charges, including driving while under suspension

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with numerous Highway Traffic Act offences stemming from a stunt driving incident that occurred during the morning hours of Friday, Oct. 23 on Cedar Street South area in Timmins.

As a result of observations made by a Timmins Police Service officer, a traffic stop was initiated and the driver of the vehicle was interviewed by the officer.

It was determined that the driver of the 2008 Dodge pickup was in fact suspended from driving in Ontario, as well as being wanted on the strength of a Committal Warrant held by another policing agency.

A number of other offences were discovered by the Timmins Police officer

As a result of the incident, Michael Butler, 35 of Timmins, was charged with:

  • Use plates not authorized for vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Two counts of drive while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Operate vehicle - no insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
  • Stunt driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The vehicle used in the commission of these offences was towed from the scene and has been impounded for 45 days

Butler was served with the applicable Offence Notices and Provincial Offences Act Summonses related to the offences listed above before being turned over to the South Porcupine OPP in regards to the outstanding Committal Warrant held by that agency.
