Traffic complaint leads to impaired charge for teen in Temiskaming Shores

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On Aug. 9, 2021, shortly after 8:00 p.m. members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a number calls regarding a traffic complaint on Highway 11 near Tobler's Road. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that a motor vehicle was travelling southbound on Highway 11 when complaints were called in to police.  

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.

The accused was arrested and transported to Temiskaming Detachment for further tests.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. 

Tiffany Brohm, an 18-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA)

The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 24, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
