Timmins woman charged in series of thefts at local retail stores

30-year-old faces 19 total charges in incidents that took place between Jan. 5 and Feb. 16

The Timmins Police Service has arrested charged a local person with break and enter-related offences stemming from a series of incidents that date from Jan. 5, 2021, up until Feb. 16 at a number of local retail businesses.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a call for service yesterday (Feb 17) where it was determined that a local person had stolen items from a Timmins Square retailer the day before. Based on this investigation and a number of other occurrences of a similar nature, the Timmins Police Service identified, located, and arrested a female suspect linked to these events.

As a result incidents that occurred on: Jan. 5 at a Timmins Square clothing retailer, Feb. 10 th at Riverside Drive gas station, Feb. 11 at a separate west end gas station, Feb. 11 at a west end industrial enterprise, Feb. 14 th at an Algonquin Blvd cell phone retail store, Feb. 16 at an Algonquin Blvd retail store, Feb. 16 at a separate Timmins Square clothing retail store, Jena Sears, 30, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Six counts of break and enter with intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft of motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Five counts of theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Six counts of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.

Additionally, Shayna Faries-Diamond, 29, of Timmins is charged with:

  • Break and enter with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Theft over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

in regards to being an accomplice in the break-in that occurred on Feb. 14 at an Algonquin Blvd cell phone retailer.

This accused person was released from custody on the strength of an undertaking compelling her to attend Provincial Court on March 23 to answer to the charges laid against her.
