Timmins teen faces impaired charges in Temiskaming Shores crash

TEMISKAMING SHORES — On Aug. 21, 2022, at approximately 5:39 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages.

The accused was transported to the Temiskaming Detachment to conduct further tests.

As a result, a 17-year-old resident of Timmins has been arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused drivers' licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Youth Court of Justice at a later date, in Temiskaming Shores. The identify of the accused will be withheld as it is protected under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
