Timmins man wanted after suspected drugs, weapons found in abandoned vehicle

Police say the accused fled on foot after ignoring multiple attempts by police to have him stop

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a Criminal Code and Controlled Substances offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early afternoon hours of Monday, July 26 in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer had occasion to observe a white Ford SUV being driven aggressively in the Mountjoy Street South area by a driver who is known to the police. The driver ignored all attempts made by the police officer to have him stop, with the driver proceeding through a number of intersections controlled by clearly erected STOP signs.

The vehicle eventually came to a hurried stop in a parking lot off of Waterloo Road. The driver opted to flee on foot leaving the vehicle abandoned. Quantities of methamphetamines and cocaine along with weapons were located within the vehicle by the Timmins Police. The vehicle was sealed as suspected explosive substances were observed in the vehicle.

Through investigation, it has been determined that the substances were not explosive in nature and the scene has been released from police control.

At this stage in the investigation, the Timmins Police currently hold an arrest warrant for Alain Gamache, 38, of Timmins, on charges of:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Flight from police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Traffic in a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Five counts of fail to comply with release order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Drive under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
