Timmins man facing impaired driving, possession charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with impaired driving related offences stemming from an incident reported to police yesterday evening.

A local man was driving a Pontiac passenger vehicle with a female passenger on Vipond Road at approximately 9:20 p.m. yesterday when he left the roadway causing the vehicle to come to rest in the ditch adjacent to the roadway. Neither the driver, nor the passenger were injured.

Based on the observations of the physical demeanor of the driver made by the responding Timmins Police Service officers, the driver was subjected to an appraisal by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer.

Based on those results, the driver was arrested and taken into police custody. A search of his person incident to arrest yielded the seizure of approximately seven grams of fentanyl with a street value of $4200.

It was further determined that the man is currently bound by a set of strict conditions imposed upon him by the Provincial Court in North Bay.

He was found to be in breach of a number of those conditions.

As a result of the incident, Ethan Diamond, 22, of Timmins has been charged with: 

  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.  
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.  
  • Three (3) counts of Breach of Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
