Timmins man faces weapons, drug possession charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of weapons and drug possession offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the afternoon hours of Saturday, Feb. 27 in the downtown core of Timmins.

While completing patrols of an assigned patrol zone, a Timmins Police Service officer recognized a pedestrian at the intersection of Maple Street and Algonquin Blvd. as being a person currently named in an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police.

The pedestrian was halted and interviewed by the Timmins Police officer and the validity of the arrest warrant was confirmed.

A quantity of controlled substances and weapons were located on the subject’s person in the course of the ensuing arrest.

As a result of the incident, Troy Etherington, 26, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of possess a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Two counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at provincial court in Timmins, to answer to the charges laid against him.
