Timmins man faces assault, weapons charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local person with break and enter related offences stemming from an incident that occurred early this morning at a Waterloo Road strip mall.

The Timmins Police responded to a call for service where a person was engaged in attempting to gain forcible entry into a retail store with the use of burglary tools.

The incident was reported by an alert citizen who observed the break-in in progress.

Upon police arrival, the lone male suspect fled the scene and hid close by.

He was discovered by the responding Timmins Police Service officer and confronted.

The suspect brandished a weapon but surrendered at the direction of the officer.

As a result of the incident, John George Wesley, 27 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    break and enter with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of break-in instruments contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    mischief to property - under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    use disguise with intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The door of the retail store sustained significant damage.

A number of break in tools were located among the suspect’s possessions upon arrest.
