Timmins man faces assault charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with assault related Criminal Code offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the early evening hours of Sunday, March 14 at a South Porcupine address.

The Timmins Police Service responded to a Crawford Street incident where [it is alleged that] a 57-year-old male person was physically assaulted by a male suspect in a physical altercation.

The investigation revealed that an argument between two occupants escalated to the point where the suspect caused damage to furniture and then [allegedly] proceeded to strike the other occupant of the residence repeatedly.

At some point during the altercation, [it is alleged that] the suspect proceeded to steal the victim’s personal property.

The assaulted man sustained facial injury during the altercation and was transported to Timmins and District Hospital by responding EMS paramedics.

The suspect was identified, located, and arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

Based on the outcome of the investigation into the incident, Edward Nickoshie, 45 of Timmins, is charged with:
    •    Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Mischief to property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    Fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
