Timmins man accused of using axe in break and enter attempt

After he failed to gain entry, he fled the scene on foot, police say

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local resident with break-in related offences stemming from an incident which occurred early Sunday morning, Jan. 26, at a Middleton Avenue residential address.

Timmins Police Service officers responded to the scene of the break-in and discovered that a suspect had forcibly gained entry into a shed on the property, secured an axe, and proceeded to attempt to gain entry into the residence.

The suspect failed to gain entry into the residence and fled the scene on foot.

The suspect was tracked to a Kent Avenue apartment by responding Timmins Police Service officers. The suspect was located by the officers and taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the incident, Troy Etherington, 24 of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • two counts of break and enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of break-in tools contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The suspect remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
