Thunder Bay murder suspect arrested in Timmins

A Thunder Bay murder suspect was arrested in Timmins yesterday after eluding police for hours. 

According to Timmins Police, the incident started at a downtown hotel parking area early June 23 where the suspect and a young offender were allegedly involved in an altercation with police. 

A Timmins Police officer was injured in the altercation and received treatment at Timmins and District Hospital.

"He has since been released from hospital and has returned to work in a modified capacity until he is completely able to resume full duties," reads a Timmins Police news release.

The suspects left the scene in a vehicle, which was abandoned in Schumacher,

Police closed access roads to the community for about six hours for the investigation, which included the OPP canine unit.

Around 5:45 p.m. the suspects were arrested at the intersection of Brunette Road and Algonquin Boulevard. Police say they were both brought into custody without incident. 

Trayvon Stewart, 19, and a 16-year-old male both from Toronto are facing a number of criminal charges.

They have both been charged with: carrying a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possessession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of prohibited device or ammunition, occupy a motor vehcile knowing a firearm is within, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

In addition, Stewart has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from peace officer, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

As part of the Timmins Police investigation, they have seized a firearm, vehicle and other proceeds of crime.

Stewart is also wanted in Thunder Bay for the first-degree murder for the death of Adrian Kadeem Drysdale in March 2020. A second suspect in the murder, 19-year-old Terrell Williams, was also arrested yesterday. That happened in Toronto.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service, arrangements are being made to transport both of the accused to Thunder Bay to answer to the charges.
