Three people face impaired charges in separate incidents

All three drivers were released from police custody, but must attend provincial court to answer their charges

The Timmins Police Service has recently charged three persons with impaired driving related offences stemming from separate incidents in mid-January which is a inauspicious start to 2020.

A Timmins Police Service officer initiated a traffic stop when the driver of a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was observed operating the vehicle in an erratic fashion and failing to stop at a stop sign at a downtown core intersection during the evening hours of Thursday, January 9th.

The officer noted significant signs of impairment in regards to the driver’s physical demeanor.

The driver completed a Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and was arrested based on the outcome of that testing.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) with the Timmins Police Service completed additional and comprehensive testing procedures on the driver at the police station.

As a result of the incident, Tyler McGee, 34, of Chapleau, has been charged with:

  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Stop Sign - Fail to Stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to Surrender Permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act - Operate Vehicle
  • No Valid Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Jan. 28 to answer to the charges laid against him.

In a separate incident, a Timmins Police Service officer initiated a traffic stop when the driver of a 2014 Ford Edge passenger vehicle was observed operating the vehicle in an erratic fashion at the intersection of Second Avenue and Cedar Street South during the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 12.

The officer made note of certain signs of impairment in regards to the driver’s physical demeanor.

Upon having the roadside breath demand read to him, the driver fled on foot and was taken into custody after a foot pursuit was completed, ending approximately two city blocks from the original scene, and after a brief physical altercation with the arresting officer took place.

The driver was transported to the Timmins Police station for the purpose of completing Intoxilyzer breath testing procedures.

As a result of the incident, Salomo Kazondanga, 39, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Operate Motor Vehicle – Concentration Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Jan. 28 to answer to the charges laid against him.

Lastly and most recently, a Timmins Police Service officer initiated a traffic stop to verify the sobriety of the operator of a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck in the downtown core during the early evening hours of Friday, Jan. 17.

The officer made note of certain indicators of impairment based on the driver’s demeanor. The officer administered onsite breath testing by means of an approved screening device.

The driver was arrested based on the results of that testing procedure and was transported to the Timmins Police station for the purpose of completing Intoxilyzer breath testing procedures.

As a result of the incident, David Mclaughlin, 44, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Operate Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Operate Motor Vehicle – Concentration Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was released from police custody but must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on Jan. 28 to answer to the charges laid against him.
