A woman allegedly threw an item at grocery store staff before producing a weapon and making threatening gestures to people in the parking lot, says Timmins Police.
The suspect is facing a number of charges in relation to the Saturday, May 20 incident at a local grocery store.
Police say the woman was wearing a disguise when she went to the store, collected over $150 in items and tried to leave without paying.
"The subject was confronted by a member of the store’s staff. The subject opted to throw an item at the staff member and continued to exit the store with a cart of stolen merchandise. The subject was followed out into the store parking lot where she produced a weapon and made threatening gestures towards persons in the immediate area," said police in a news release.
She eventually left the cart of stolen items behind and left the area on foot. Timmins Police officers arrest the suspect later that day.
A 31-year-old from Timmins is charged with:
- Theft under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- 2 counts of assault with a weapon contrary
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Carry a concealed weapon
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Use disguise in the commission of an offence
- Resist peace officer
- 2 counts of fail to comply with release order
The accused is in police custody waiting for a bail hearing slated for tomorrow.
The charges have not been tested in court.
