Swerving vehicle on Highway 11 leads to impaired charge

The accused had their licence suspended and the vehicle was impounded

A driver is facing impaired charges after a traffic stop south of Cochrane on March 13.

IROQUOIS FALLS - A swerving vehicle on Highway 11 caught the attention of police and resulted in an impaired charge. 

On March 13 around 8 p.m., James Bay OPP said that a vehicle seen swerving in its lane was pulled over on Highway 11 south of Cochrane.

Police say the driver had been drinking alcohol and was arrested and brought to the Iroquois Falls detachment for further testing.

A 64-year-old man from Iroquois Falls is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court in Cochrane on May 28. The accused also had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
