'Suspicious person' responsible for business break-in: Police

The accused is facing a number of charges

An officer on patrol helped nab a break and enter suspect.

While on a crime abatement patrol on Sept. 18, Timmins Police say an officer saw a suspicious person in "close proximity" to a business that had been broken into. Police say that an investigation revealed that the person was responsible for the break-in.

When the suspect was arrested, police allege he was in possession of break-and-enter instruments, stolen property and weapons. Controlled substances were also found.

A 37-year-old man from Timmins is charged with:

  • Possession of break and enter instruments
  • 3 counts of possession of property obtained by crime
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carry concealed weapon 
  • 2 counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • 4 counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Fail to comply with probation order 
  • Possession of a controlled substance

The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court on Oct. 31. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
