Suspended driver with open liquor in vehicle arrested: Police

The driver was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days

James Bay OPP seized open liquor from a vehicle in Hearst.

HEARST - A driver with three active driving suspensions was arrested after a traffic stop where police allege they found open liquor containers in the vehicle.

On Feb. 9 around 3 p.m., James Bay OPP says they stopped a vehicle on George Street in Hearst. 

The officer saw open liquor in the centre console of the vehicle and the police say the driver had been drinking. The suspect was arrested and brought to the Hearst OPP detachment for testing. 

A 23-year-old woman from Constance Lake is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • 3 counts of driving while under suspension
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with an unsealed container of liquor
  • Novice driver - blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above zero

The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court in Hearst on March 27. 

The driver was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
