Suspected meth, opioids seized at Kirkland Lake traffic stop: OPP

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Jan. 2, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Highway 112 in Otto Township for a complaint of a possible bail violation.

The investigation revealed that the driver was breaching a release order. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and opioids.

As a result, Jamie-Lee Briscoe, age 29, of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
  • Failure to comply with release order (four counts), contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before The Ontario Court of Justice by video, on Jan. 4, 2021.
