Sudbury man faces drug trafficking charges in Cochrane

COCHRANE – On Sept. 11, 2020 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Cochrane officers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a drug trafficking occurrence at a commercial parking lot on Highway 11 in the Town of Cochrane.  

The suspect was located and arrested on Third Street in Cochrane a short time later. Police seized suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency, that combined, had an estimated street value of $8,500.  

Peter Battisti, 20 years old of Sudbury, Ont., has been charged with the following offences:  

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), 
  • Trafficking in Schedule I Substance - cocaine contrary to section 5(1) CDSA,  
  • Four counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC), and  
  • Two counts of failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC.  

The accused has been held in custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled for a video remand hearing with the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on Sept. 22, 2020 to answer to the charges.
