Stun gun, switchblade seized during Kapuskasing arrest

Police allegedly found the accused trying to break into a residence

KAPUSKASING - A switch blade and stun gun were seized during the arrest of a suspect in a break-in investigation. 

On Feb. 12 around 11:30 p.m., James Bay OPP received a call about a person trying to enter a Lemarier Street residence in Kapuskasing. 

When police arrived, the suspect was still trying to get in the front door of the residence. During the arrest, police found two prohibited weapons — a switch blade and a stun gun — as well as a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. 

A 35-year-old from Huron East is charged with: 

  • Trespassing at night
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Carrying a concealed prohibited device
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose - two counts
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon at an unauthorized place
  • Failure to comply with probation - two counts
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine

The accused was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court in Kapuskasing on March 18. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
