Three run-ins with police in under 48 hours led to multiple impaired charges for a local woman.

Early on Wednesday, March 8, a concerned citizen reported a pickup truck being driven erratically at the Timmins airport, says Timmins Police. Officers located the vehicle on Airport Road and pulled it over.

The driver, a 32-year-old woman from South Porcupine, was charged with impaired driving and driving with cannabis readily available. She was released from custody.

The next evening (March 9), police allege she overtook a fully marked cruiser on Highway 101 between South Porcupine and Schumacher.

Police say she overtook the westbound cruiser "at a high rate of speed ... by entering into the oncoming lane of traffic to complete the manoeuvre."

The officer turned its emergency lights on and followed the vehicle, but stopped the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Shortly after that incident, police say a citizen reported a woman acting in an erratic fashion in the McChesney Road area.

Officers found the suspect behind the wheel of a vehicle with the motor running. She was arrested and brought to the station for drug recognition expert testing procedures.

The additional charges in the last two incidents are flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of driving under suspension, impaired driving and driving with cannabis readily available.

The accused is to appear in court on April 4 for the March 8 charges and March 21 for the second series of charges.

"The Timmins Police Service appreciates being notified about incidents of suspected impaired driving. Concerned citizens are acknowledged for drawing police attention to these potentially lethal situations. Local roadway safety is enhanced based on the actions of these citizens who reported their suspicions without delay," reads a Timmins Police news release.
