NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE
*************************
The Timmins Police Service has charged a 40-year-old South Porcupine man for a Stunt Driving offence stemming from a motor vehicle collision that occurred during the afternoon hours of Sunday, July 11.

Based on investigation, the Timmins Police Service has determined that both drivers were westbound on Ross Avenue, stopped at the red light at the Pine Street intersection.

When allowed to proceed on a green light, the operator of the vehicle in the lead drove in such a manner as to repetitively refuse or prevent the driver of the vehicle following to overtake him.

While continuing westbound onto Jubilee Avenue for a considerable distance, the driver of the lead vehicle persisted in occupying portions of both the centre most and curb lanes at the same time.

This occurrence culminated with a collision between the two vehicles as the one driver sideswiped the other vehicle as he tried to overtake the lead vehicle.

A heated verbal and physical confrontation occurred between the drivers once they had brought their respective vehicles to a full stop after the collision.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers completed their investigation into the occurrence and the driving behaviour leading up to the collision.

As a result, Frank Garito Jr., 40, of South Porcupine has been charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – prevent passing contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The vehicle involved has been impounded for 14 days and the statutory suspension of driver’s licence has been imposed on the accused.
