Single-vehicle crash leads to impaired charges for Thornloe driver

Police say the 43-year-old also fled the scene in another vehicle

HARLEY TOWNSHIP - THORNLOE – On Nov. 1, 2021 shortly before 5:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to single motor vehicle collision on Maybrook Road in the Township of Harley.    

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had extensive damage and the driver had fled the scene in another vehicle. 

A short time after, police located the driver on Main Street, in the Town of Thornloe and the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. 

The driver was arrested and transported to the Temiskaming Detachment. Upon further testing, results revealed that the accused had consumed more than double the legal limit.  

As a result, Kevin Huff, a 43-year-old resident of Thornloe, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a)

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 23, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores. 

The OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drug can impair one's ability to drive. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 and report it.
