FORT ALBANY - A shotgun, brass knuckles and drugs were among the items seized by police executing a search warrant at a Fort Albany home.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) says that the search warrant was executed on Jan. 17 as part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected illegal possession of a firearm.

A shotgun and brass knuckles were found by officers. During the investigation, they learned of suspected drugs and investigators got another search warrant through the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. That led to the seizure of suspected oxycodone pills, crystal methamphetamine, and fentanyl.

A 36-year-old woman from Fort Albany is charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Two counts of possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

The accused has been released from police custody and has a court appearance on April 17.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
