NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a traffic advisory in regards to large commercial motor vehicles (CMV) failing to follow established detour routes currently in place as a result of ongoing construction on main traffic arteries in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service is aware that routinely, operators of larger commercial motor vehicles are opting to make use of Ross Avenue, Jubilee Avenue and Airport Road instead of complying in full with the detours in place.

All operators of large commercial motor vehicles are legally required to comply with all detour routes making effective use of Highway 655 to Laforest Drive to Shirley Street to navigate heavy vehicles through the city of Timmins while westbound.

The same detour route applies (in the opposite order) for heavy vehicle traffic proceeding east through the city.

The practice of “short-cutting” the detours in place will not be tolerated by the Timmins Police Service.

Those operators of commercial motor vehicles found to be in violation of the detours currently in place will have their driving comportment addressed by means of the issuance of Offence Notices or Summonses.

In simple terms, it should be commonly understood that Ross Avenue and Jubilee Avenue were not constructed to accommodate heavy commercial vehicle traffic on a regular or repetitive basis.

The onus of compliance rests squarely on the shoulders of the individual commercial motor vehicle operator.
