Senior shopper hit during altercation at Timmins grocery store

A local man is facing theft-related charges after an incident at a Timmins grocery store. 

The morning of Jan. 27, Timmins Police said that the suspect was stopped trying to leave with merchandise that he hadn't paid for. During the altercation, police allege that a 62-year-old man was hit. 

The suspect was arrested at the scene. 

A 55-year-old man from Timmins is charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, assault, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. 

The accused was held in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
