Robbery victim assaulted before fleeing scene: Police

The incident happened in the north end of the city and the suspect was arrested nearby, say police

A man was allegedly assaulted and had items stolen from him, says Timmins Police. 

In an incident yesterday morning (Feb. 5), Timmins Police say that a 23-year-old man on a street in the north end of the city was approached by a male suspect. 

Police allege the suspect assaulted the victim and collected items belonging to him. The victim fled on foot from the area and called the police. 

The suspect was arrested near the original scene. 

A 33-year-old man from Timmins is charged with robbery with violence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing today.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
