Quebec man arrested for drug trafficking in Cobalt

COBALT - On Aug. 18, 2020 shortly before 12:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of an individual that was failing to comply with their release conditions on Prospect Avenue in the Town of Cobalt.

Police attended and subsequently located the accused.

Jacob McWhirter, a 24-year-old resident of Notre-Dame-du-Nord, Que. was arrested and charged with:
    •    Trafficking in schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
