Police seize suspected methamphetamine during traffic stop

KIRKLAND LAKE – On Feb. 6, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Government Road East in the Town of Kirkland Lake as there was a warrant for the arrest of the driver. 

Further investigation revealed that the accused was in possession of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine and was breaching a probation order.

As a result, Robert Brunet, 34 years of age, of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:         

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),        
  • Fail to comply with summons, contrary to section 145(3)of the Criminal Code (CC), and        
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before The Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on March 25, 2021.
