Police seize suspected meth during traffic stop

KIRKLAND LAKE – On Jan. 12, 2021, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Algonquin Avenue in The Town of Kirkland Lake.  

Police located the motor vehicle and a traffic stop was conducted. The investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be methamphetamines.

As a result, Stuart Smith, age 56, from Vermilion Bay, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

The accused was release on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear before The Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on March 25, 2021.
