Police seize suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE – On Jan. 27, 2021, The North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), executed two search warrants in the Town of Kirkland Lake, one at a residence on Poplar Avenue and the other at a residence on Government Road East.

Police seized drugs suspected to be Opioids (fentanyl) and methamphetamine. Police also seized $3,545 in Canadian currency. Total estimated street value of the seizure is over $4,000.

As a result, Chad Mulvill, 41-years-of-age, of Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with the following: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), 
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary section 4(1) of the CDSA, 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and 
  • Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Feb. 3, 2021.
