Police seize suspected drugs during traffic stop in Englehart

ENGLEHART – On Feb. 5, 2021 shortly after 3 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting pro-active patrols in the Town of Englehart.  

Officers stopped a motor vehicle travelling westbound on Fourth Avenue for a traffic infraction. Further investigation revealed that the driver did not have valid plates on the vehicle and the accused was arrested.

A search incident to arrest, yielded a quantity of suspected controlled substances.

As a result, Robert Rodgers, a 21-year-old resident of the Town of Charlton has been charged with: 

  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the  Highway Traffic Act (HTA), 
  • Operate motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  

The accused was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 2, 2021 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
