Police seize suspected crystal meth, fentanyl, cocaine during traffic stop

The Timmins Police Service has charged two persons with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from a traffic stop near the intersection of Maple Street North and Fifth Avenue early this morning.

Based on observations made by the officer, two of the occupants were arrested.

A 43-year-old male occupant was found to be in possession of the following controlled substances and currency: 

  • 3.3g crystal methamphetamine 
  • 0.4g purple fentanyl 
  • 5.9g cocaine 
  • 1.5g white fentanyl 
  • One hydromorphone capsule 
  • Three white capsules – unknown content – to be determined by means of technical analysis 
  • $180 in Canadian currency

As a result of the investigation, Steed Gagnon, 43, of Timmins has been charged with: 

  • Four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act 
  • Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Additionally, a 17-year-old male occupant was found to be in possession of a concealed weapon and has been charged with: 

  • Carry a concealed weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

All charged persons remain in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the respective charges laid against them.
