Police seize over $77K in drugs, cash executing early-morning search warrants

Six people have been charged

The Timmins Police Service has charged a total of six persons with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from the execution of two sequential search warrants early this morning.

One of the search warrants applied to a Mountjoy Street South apartment with three occupants and the other Search Warrant was executed at a Mountjoy Street North residence with an additional three persons taken into police custody.

Based on an ongoing drug investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Timmins Police Service, while working in conjunction with platoon officers, the OPP, and the Timmins Police - Emergency Response Team (ERT), respective search warrants were executed in a coordinated manner allowing entry into the residences.

As a result, the following exhibits were seized as evidence by the Timmins Police Service from the Mountjoy Street North:

  • 43.5 grams of Fentanyl (“purp”) with an estimated street value of $26,100
  • 85.2 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $8,520
  • $1,280 in Canadian currency.

The total street value of the drugs and cash seized is $35,900.

As a result of the incident, Ainsley McNaught, 21, of the GTA, Kathleen Edwards, 31, of Timmins, and Anne-Marie Iahtail, 30, of Timmins, have been arrested and charged respectively with:

  • 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

As a result, the following exhibits were seized as evidence by the Timmins Police Service from the Mountjoy Street South apartment:

  • 12.7 grams of Fentanyl (“purp”) with an estimated street value of $7,620
  • 53.4 grams of Fentanyl (“blue”) with an estimated street value of $32,040
  • $2,270 in Canadian currency.

The total street value of the drugs and cash seized is $41,930.

As a result of the incident, Raykwon Charles, 19, of the GTA, Reginald Obeng, 19, of the GTA, and Erica Linklater, 29, of Timmins, have been arrested and charged respectively with:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Charles is charged with an additional count of:

  • Fail to Comply with Conditional Sentence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

All six remain in police custody at present awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against them.
