Police seize methamphetamine during arrest of theft suspect

On Sept. 30, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a theft on Rowan Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police located and arrested the accused near the scene. Further investigation revealed that the accused was in possession of drugs suspected to be methamphetamine.

As a result, Richard Hooper, age 41 of Kirkland Lake, was charged with the following:

  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on Nov.12, 2020.
