Police seize crystal meth, purple fentanyl in Cobalt

COBALT – On June 1, 2020, members of the North East Region (NER) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a Drug Search Warrant on Nickle Street in the Town of Cobalt. 

Once inside the residence, the officers located and seized a quantity of suspected Purple Fentanyl and Crystal Methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $2280, and over $1400 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, two accused have been arrested.

Devin Smith, a 28-year-old resident of Cobalt, is charged with:  

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and  
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a), of the Criminal Code (CC).  

Courtney Hale, a 25-year-old resident of Cobalt is charged with: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,  
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - other drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and  
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC.

Both accused were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
