HEARST - Nov. 13, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information regarding stolen property that was being advertised on a social media marketplace to be sold.

As a result of the investigation, Hearst OPP, along with Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service executed a search warrant on Nabakhabo Street in Constance Lake First Nation. Officers seized a boat motor, numerous firearms and ammunition.

Dakota Bedwash, a 28-year-old person of Constance Lake First Nation has been arrested and charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (Five Counts), contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (Two Counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (Three Counts), contrary to section 91(1) of the CC
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition (Three Counts), contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Jan. 13, 2022 in Hearst.
