Police seize $22K of suspected fentanyl in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Jan. 10, 2022, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Taylor Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The investigation revealed that the driver's licence was suspended. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) with an estimated street value of $22,000.

As a result, Jody Mulvihill, 47 years old, of Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Two Counts)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was remanded into custody is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Jan. 27, 2022.
