If you're celebrating tonight, Timmins Police are reminding drivers to plan ahead.

Timmins Police have issued a public safety reminder for people who will be drinking or using other substances. Police say officers will be monitoring "all city traffic arteries".

"Celebrators should be making arrangements for a designated driver, a sober ride home, or some other form of responsible transportation for New Year’s Eve festivities," said police in a news release.

"The burden of responsibility lies with the individual driver not to take to the wheel after having consumed alcoholic beverages or any substance that can interfere with their ability to drive safely."

Amid the Ontario-wide shutdown, indoor gatherings with people outside your household are not permitted. Outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people.

Earlier this week, police issued an advisory about complying with the provincial shutdown.

"Any social gathering found to be in violation of these restrictions will merit a police response based on enforcement meant to enhance public safety and to avoid any further proliferation of the virus," it reads.
