Police receiving complaints about ATVs on city streets

Areas of concerns are Connaught Hill, Mountjoy

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a Traffic Advisory focused on a recent spate of complaints received in regards to ATV and other off road vehicles being used on city streets in direct contravention of the pertinent and applicable provincial statutes.

Areas of concern that have been identified to the Timmins Police center on the Connaught Hill area of South Porcupine, and area falling within Mountjoy Township.

All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) are prohibited from being operated on any city street by statute which carry fines and other measures including having any such vehicle being removed at the owner’s expense should in be involved in this type of offence.

These incidents are occurring frequently and bring into sharp focus the need for ATV and recreational vehicle operators in Timmins to be:  

  • compliant with applicable restrictions and legal obligations of the Off Road Vehicles Act  
  • aware of their surroundings at all times in terms of legalities -
  • only make use of these vehicle in areas allowable for their use - operate these vehicles prudently and responsibly at all times

Any and all violations committed by ATV operators are viewed as actions that place the safety of the operator and the general public in jeopardy.

An increased police presence in areas identified to the Timmins Police has been undertaken.

Violators will be met with strict enforcement measures by the Timmins Police Service.

Significant fines, court appearances and in some cases, suspension of driver’s licences can result from unethical operation of these vehicles.
