Fire and sprinkler system caused significant damage to banking equipment

The Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigation Division is in the midst of investigating an arson that was committed during the late evening hours of Thursday, Sept. 17 at the ATM installation within the Royal Bank of Canada’s vestibule at the 101 Mall in Timmins.

Sometime prior to 9:30 p.m., an unknown suspect dressed in dark clothing attended the facility and attempted to set it on fire and then fled the area on foot heading in a northerly direction on Pine Street.

The Timmins Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire that, along with the triggered sprinkler system, caused significant damage to banking equipment and the immediate area around the ATM.

Exhibits and forensic evidence has been located and retrieved by the Timmins Police – Forensic Identification Unit.

Timmins Police are actively seeking to identify and arrest the suspect whose image was captured on video monitoring equipment on site.
