Collision reported at Preston Street, Wilson Avenue intersection (2:51 p.m. update, 3 photos)

2:51 p.m. Timmisn Police news release:

A pedestrian related collision was reported to the Timmins Police Service at 11:55 a.m. today which had occurred at the intersection of Preston Street and Wilson Avenue in Timmins.

The operator of a scooter (personal mobility vehicle) was struck as he was proceeding north on Preston, making use of the pedestrian cross walk.

The driver of a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck was proceeding westbound through the intersection and struck the scooter before coming to rest just west of the intersection.

The operator of the scooter was transported to Timmins and District Hospital for medical treatment for injuries sustained in the collision.

The exact level of injury is undetermined at this time.

The intersection remains closed to allow for the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators with the Timmins Police Service to complete their scrutiny of the scene to determine the root cause of the collision.

Traffic delays are expected to persist in this area for the next few hours.

The matter remains under investigation at this time.

2:20 p.m. update:
Police told TimminsToday that the injured individual was operating a scooter at the time of the collision and they are currently being assessed at Timmins and District Hospital.

It is reported that the scooter operator was northbound using a crosswalk when they were struck by a westbound pickup truck.

The investigation is ongoing.
