Over $8K in drugs seized in Cochrane

COCHRANE - Two people are facing drug trafficking charges after police executed a search warrant in Cochrane. 

On Feb. 7 around 9:30 a.m., a search warrant was executed on Fifteenth Avenue. The investigation involved the OPP northeast region community street crime unit, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service's drug enforcement unit, and James Bay OPP. 

Police seized suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, and hydromorphone with an estimated street value of $8,500. 

A 37-year-old woman from Cochrane and a 34-year-old man from Timmins are each charged with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid. 

The Timmins man was released from police custody and is slated to appear in court on March 20. 

The woman was held in police custody for a bail hearing today (Feb. 9).

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
