Ottawa driver faces impaired charges after single-vehicle crash in Cochrane

The 30-year-old also faces dangerous operation charges

TOWN OF COCHRANE – On Dec. 22, 2020 at 7:03 p.m. members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Hanna Township.

Police attended the scene and spoke to the driver who was standing outside the vehicle. Investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Nicholas Sutherland, 30-years-old, of Ottawa was arrested and has been charged with:  

  • Operation while Impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),  
  • Operation while Impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC, and  
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on Jan. 26, 2021.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
