On May 14, 2021 at approximately 4:25 p.m., members of the South Porcupine Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a capsized canoe on Frederick House River in Connaught northeast of Timmins.
The OPP with the assistance of the Timmins Fire Department located the canoeist unresponsive in the water. The 35-year-old person was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where the canoeist was pronounced deceased. A 6-year-old person was safely brought to shore.
The name of the deceased person is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
