OPP cruiser struck during drug trafficking investigation

No one was hurt in the incident, two people are facing charges

KIRKLAND LAKE - On March 4, 2022, The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), attempted to arrest the occupants of a motor vehicle in relation to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Town of Kirkland Lake. The vehicle fled, striking a police cruiser.

A short while later, the OPP located and arrested three people and recovered the motor vehicle. No one was injured as a result of the collision.

As a result of the investigation, two people have been charged:

Cole Johnson, 23 years old, of Pickering, Ont., has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Flight from Peace Officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the CC (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
  • Mischief - Destroy or Damages Property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC
  • Fail to Comply With Probation Order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice by video at a later date.

Lee Ogden, 31 years old, of Hanmer, Ont., has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 21, 2022, in Kirkland Lake.
