One arrested after victim stabbed during dispute at Mountjoy Street apartment

The Timmins Police Service has investigated an early morning disturbance that occurred yesterday (Aug. 26) and resulted in injury to a 33-year-old male person.

Based on investigation, it was determined that a verbal dispute amongst acquaintances had taken place at a Mountjoy Street South apartment. At one point, a 33 year old male person involved in the dispute opted to leave the apartment only to be confronted by the suspect a short while later on Third Avenue.

The argument resumed at this location and escalated to the point where the suspect brandished an edged weapon and assaulted the victim resulting in a stab wound to the victim’s torso.

The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance to have his injuries addressed. The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the suspect at another location.

As a result, Garrett Rickard, 26, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
