Officer assaulted during Cobalt arrest: OPP

Police say the individual was wanted on a warrant from a previous occurrence

COBALT - On Nov. 11, 2020, shortly after 11:30 p.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call on Silver Street in the Town of Cobalt. 

Officers attended Silver Street and recognized the individual as being wanted on a warrant from a previous occurrence. 

While police were effecting the arrest, an altercation ensued resulting in an officer being assaulted.

Donald Ash, a 30-year-old resident of Cobalt is charged with:

  • Disobeying order of court, contrary to section 127 of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Assault a peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC, and
  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a).

The accused was released by way of an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 1, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
