Numerous complaints leads to impaired charge for Kapuskasing driver

 KAPUSKASING - On July 15, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous complaints regarding a motor vehicle driving in an unsafe manner and speeding on Spruce Street, in Kapuskasing.

Police located the vehicle and spoke to the driver of the motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the driver was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. As a result, the driver was arrested, driver's licence suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Nicholas Thomas, 21 years old of Kapuskasing, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (BAC) (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC

 The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 23, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
