Three people have been charged after a crash between an ATV and pick-up truck in November 2023.

MATTICE - A crash involving an ATV and pick-up truck last year has led to impaired driving charges.

The Nov. 18 crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Plamondon Road in Mattice, which is between Hearst and Kapuskasing, said James Bay OPP.

Two people were brought to the hospital via ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old man from Jogues is charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drug, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), drive non-passenger ATV with a passenger, and driver - no helmet or improper helmet.

The accused is slated to appear in a Hearst court on Feb. 14. Their driver's licence was also suspended for 90 days.

Two other people were also charged.

A 27-year-old from Mattice was charged with passenger - no helmet or improper helmet. A 26-year-old from Val Cote is charged with fail to remain, fail to report an accident, fail to render assistance and careless driving causing bodily harm.

Police are reminding drivers about the process if an officer suspects someone has been driving while impaired.

"If a driver is suspected of driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, the OPP has the authority to demand a breath sample, a drug recognition evaluation, or a blood sample. The police will demand a blood sample when a person is physically incapable of providing a breath sample, or it would be impractical to obtain a breath sample," reads an OPP news release.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
