ENGLEHART — On Jan. 23, 2022 shortly after 8:30 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a single vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11 in the Town of Englehart.

Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was travelling southbound when it lost control. The vehicle collided with the bridge and flipped over on its roof.

The 52-year-old driver, of Hearst was assessed by paramedics as a precautionary measure.

The highway was closed and re-opened shortly before 10 p.m.

Aggressive driving, including speeding, is one of the leading causal factors in traffic deaths in OPP patrolled areas. The OPP would like to remind drivers to drive according to the weather conditions - reduce your speed and increase your following distance to ensure you can stop safely if needed. Speed too fast for conditions is the most common cause of winter collisions. Accelerate slowly and brake sooner to avoid spin outs - especially at intersections.
